The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway
The Old Man and the Sea, is a boring, out-dated story that is beyond overrated. The novel is about how an old man, Santiago, attempts to regain his masculinity by catching a fish. Not any fish, but a true magnificent fish that would make any man proud to catch. Santiago has not caught a fish in quite some time, and a fisher who cannot fish is no man.
Santiago goes out to the ocean and attemts to defy the odds and catch a giant marlin. The most exciting thing that occurs is when he actually catches a fish, but by no means is this suspensful or interesting. Although the story is well-written, it is way over the heads of young teens who have to read this book for school. The book is fairly bland (for young teens/kids) and really is not that impressive for kids.
