The book Speak, by Laurie Halse Anderson a national book award finalist, is a fictional book about a girl named Melinda has to speak up about what happened at a party earlier in the year. The whole story is about how she tries to overcome her fear and speak up about it. Everyone else doesn’t know it happened just that Melinda called the cops on a big party and got a lot of people in trouble. Alone and friendless she must struggle on alone in a captivating story to speak out.

Speak is a well written slightly humorous book the author purposely made it slightly funny, while still serious about the grave topic. In general the book was well written, because it was quite humorous and interesting. It managed to tell Melinda’s feelings simply and plainly making it  uncomplicated  but, still good. I would recommend this book for anyone who wants a bit of humor but  is still mature. Overall it was a good book that perfectly showed the struggle of bullying in high school.
