"Sold" by Patricia McCormick is a wonderfully somber book. It is bittersweet in that the writing is simple and breathtaking, yet the story yound Lakshmi tells is one of sorrow and pain. She shows us her journey from her poor homeland of Nepal to a bustling city in India. She is trickced into thinking she will be working as a maid to a rich woman and sending funds home to her destitute family when in fact, she has been sold to a woman who runs a brothel. Now she is trapped in a world of lies, prostitution, and shame. This book is an inspiring look at a realistically-fictional story of pain, strength, and overcoming. I absolutely loved it and I'd reccommend it to anyone.
