This book is about a girl who desperately tries to befriend a homeless veteran from the Vietnam War. It started out as an assignment. but it eventually became somewhat a 'mission' for her.
Along with enduring pressure in school, roamnce between her two best friends, and her father's constant negativity, Kelly can still find time to visit Mr. Weems in the library as often as possible. As much as she tries, he just won't accept her.
This book is very simple and to the point. The moments with Kelly and her father are so heart felt. It's an easy read for children in elementary to middle school. It definitely is excellently written and deserves the utmost recognition.
