After reading this book, I have a much deeper understanding of what it really was like to live in the South during the early 1900s. Black Boy is a novel about a boy who grows up hearing everyone telling him he will never amount to anything because he is black. He can't understand why the color of skin has anything to do with how successful one becomes. As he grows and is exposed to more prejudice, he is determined to make something of himself. He proceeds to lead an inspirational life, defeating people's ideals of what a "nigger" is supposed to do.

This book is beautifully written. It is so honest and shows what life was like back then. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested. I guarantee you will love it. .
