A Corner of the Universe This work has been published in the Teen Ink monthly print magazine.

A Corner of the Universe. Hmm ...I would probably put this book in the same category as Speak and ThePerks of Being a Wallflower. Why? Because of the lessons it teachesabout people with mental illness.

I had never heard of the bookbut I thought it had a neat cover. As it turns out, I like it more thanany other book I've read. Yes, and I am one of those who followthe saying “Don't judge a book by its cover,” but Idid and this time my instincts worked.

In a small town in thesummer of 1960, Hattie sees signs announcing an upcoming carnival anddecides to go. But when an unexpected guest arrives, Hattie's lifeis changed forever, and she finds herself her own corner of theuniverse.

This book tries to teach the meaning of life and whysome shut others out. The point is that you might have much more incommon that you think with people who appear to be completely different.

This book really teaches that not all people are the same, thatmany have special needs. It's a great book, and I recommend it toall.
