“How I Became a Cross-Country Runner” by Mary Dorroh was overall, a great story. Written in the October issue, this nonfiction story is about how her fear of seniors vanishes as she realizes that they are encouraging and helpful, especially when she joins track.

Although this story had some terrific points, it also had a few downfalls. For example, the title is “How I Became a Cross-Country Runner” but not once did I see the word cross-country nor was it even about cross-country, but track instead. Also, Mary doesn’t mention track, the main subject of the story, until the middle. Aside from those disappointments, “How I Became a Cross-Country Runner” was still a very well written story. I especially liked how Mary said in the beginning she was terrified of seniors, but now she loves them! It proves that you can’t always trust what some people say and sometimes you need to judge a person by how YOU see them and what they’ve done to help YOU. Don’t believe all rumors!
