Fearless Again

December 3, 1991,
I took the day off to be born,
With a burst of continuous energy,

I am off!
To make my way through cozy winters and lazy summers,
Saved in vintage-colored photographs.

The jungles of my backyard,

Are no match for my fearless pink overalls.

See, I often find myself washed ashore,

On deserted tropical islands, And am rescued from my fate,
By the chiming of the school bell.

I am a walking contradiction;

With my love of words and my brand new glasses,

I hide my inner flag football player,

From those unseeing eyes.

Does anybody really see me?

I’m not so sure.

I tag along while they say follow,
I’m bruised with the words that they laughed into me.
I used to be fearless; now I fear,

I am the mirror that lay sadly broken in my palm.

Time means change,

But does change take time?

I believe it is time for me to change.

With a brand new smile,

And a brand new attitude,

I will wage war.

I am the girl that found herself again.

Hear my laughter piercing through the walls?

See my dreams jumping out,
Of the pages of my stories?

With a confident gait,

I am ready for you now.

But can you say,

You are ready for me?
