In times when darkness plagued my mind and soul,
I wanted power, wealth, and hell to burn.
A magic brought her down and shook the whole.
Her sheen so strong, the stars may feel concern.
My sight is thanks to grace she brought.
The shockwave... sure refreshed my mind. I lived...
A beast... and... caged to turn a crazed... a gaunt...
My fate was lost. Before, I lived eye-crossed.
Though folks are strange, she strangely soared so... right.
In selfish times, she cared for dregs as saint.
It gave exchange a meaning. Such new sight.
Of course, her looks could not be made with paint.
The past aside, her grace aside, I still...
In spite of love, I must face tests of skill.

The author's comments:

I decided to try my hand at the Shakespearean sonnet after having read "My Mistress' Eyes are Nothing like the Sun." Given my romantic experience, a love poem I knew would be relatively easy. I decided to therefore make writing one more difficult by using iambic pentameter and the ABABCDCDEFEFGG rhyme scheme. I apologize if the iambic pentameter is flawed, but this is my first time using it.
