A dragonfly on her wrist,

and a gipsy on her back.
Eyes shining, so blue, they refuse to be missed,

beauty so rare and intelligence; no lack.

Her daughter so young, so sweet,

and a twinkle in her eye,
Now stands with defeat

from having to say her “Goodbye”.

She was taken so young,

her life cut to an end.
My heart, on a nail, and from the wall it hung

just imagining my life with one less friend.

She’s a companion, a mother, a true beyond true friend,
and regardless the distance, she will be my sister, well beyond the end.

My sister Lindsey was killed at the age of 22, only weeks before her birthday in 2012. She left behind her only child, my niece, Shaeleene. Shae is currently 2 years old, and lives with her grandparents because her father is in jail and her mother is waiting in heaven. This piece really gave me the chance to briefly reflect on lindsey and the light that she brought to my life. She is and always will remain my sister.
