We’re what most would call the best of best friends,
Though these days it hardly seems to be so.
Now I sit alone; how to make amends,
To a girl who would rather have her beau.
What happened to the days when boys were seen
as pesky vermin that had to be shunned?
Well, things were bound to change, now that we’re teens,
Still, I can’t help but stand here, feeling stunned.
Boyfriends and girlfriends, who needs the drama?
We won’t die tomorrow; we have sweet time
to prepare for the heartbreak and trauma.
Staying single; hey, it isn’t a crime.
So throw it all away for a boy, go on.
We’ll see pretty damn soon who’s really wrong.

Wrote this after my friend freaked out at me for saying she liked a boy. Not my best, but topical? Yes indeed.
