"Thou! thy truest type of grief is the gently falling leaf."
-Edgar Allan Poe

Tears fall on sandy shore;
On these stretches, always room for more.
In the sand they carve a dent,
A tiny space to my soul is lent.
The roar of ocean muffles my cries
—Flung not far ‘til it dies.
Then ancient Neptune of the seas
Sends it forth, my tears to seize.
Lapping waves wash the marks away,
Carried back to their home to play.
No more tears on face or sand,
Lifted by a gentle hand.
But throughout eternity
Amongst ocean kin, there they’ll be.
