A checkerboard of diamonds edging about
A hunter green expansive floor of space
The black of mini Christmas trees are out of place
But serve their purpose- boarder guards, blocking out
The stubborn people trying to find the route
To a factory where they and others can chase
The dreams of being workers making lace
In center stage, a horse, no doubt, dreams about
The galloping with purple tail and mane
And I am on the Belgian steed
While looking at the crème and black mixture
Of sky, enjoying movement down the lane
From here al checkers seem as small as seed
But still, in mind, I take the picture

The author's comments:
This is a petrarchean sonnet in iambic pentameter that is describing a postcard/picture, so the poem is confusing in places in order to fit the sonnet scheme.
