Night's Moon

Among the chalk dust clouds he waits to creep
Replace our daily guide – he hides the day’s shimmer
A burnt red rise is pulled into the deep
Silent sighing breath¬¬--plum sky dimmer

Dark late of day enchants a gripping spell
Imposing silence of night fills the ear
Yet ne’er a truer sound hath chimed and fell
To listeners a message holds most clear

Pushing away the cloak of frosted gray
Celestial orbs trail rad’iant tails behind
And through the swirls of mist they rest to lay
A grazing beam with glance and light so kind

Majestic glow—the pearly king of night
Moon’s subjects praise his tarnished skin so bright
