"Always look on the bright side of life." ~ Eric Idle, Monty Python

A woman's shattered hopes for love,
Created out of a dark stigma.
Once, her spirits flew like a dove,
And met with a man with a great enigma.
There was nothing she wouldn't do for him
For the man who had hold of her heart.
She had so much optimism, energy, and vim,
She could never imagined they'd part.
Then there came another
And the man's eyes turned away.
Her tears she had to cover
As the man made his new love convey.
Now, she has lost everything,
Not a single piece of compassion remains.
She does not have anything,
Shattered, her heart is emptied of pain.
She no longer feels love or similar feelings,
For you cannot love without a heart.
At last she is finally healing,
Vowing she will never again be torn apart.

The author's comments:
This piece was originally an exam poem for my Creative Writing class. I thought that since people liked it so much, why not submit it?

There is a story behind this with a couple of my characters from another story that is still a work in progress. In a sense, they were the inspiration for this piece.
