Sonnet of Love

I write this thinking of my one true love.

The sight of her can make dark days look bright.

Her beauty has been blessed from heav’n above.

I press her to my mouth and hold her tight.

Her fragrance so consuming, so sublime,

The thought of her makes my mouth salivate.

I want to have her with me all the time.

She wakes me up and I stay with her late.

I’m sad when she is not upon my lips.

I gaze at her; my heart begins to race.

Though I don’t want her to go to my hips,

I’m there for her and her for me to taste.

I did not mean for this to sound so crude,

The story of my love affair with food.

The author's comments:
I wrote this as an assignment for my 11th grade Honors English class. We had been studying sonnets and were assigned to write a sonnet of love.

As I pondered love, I thought of her and how she is always there for me. I would be truly ungrateful indeed if I were not to take this opportunity to express my ardent love for her.

What a great piece. It’s so understandable. You made it really easy to see where you’re coming from. I hope you keep writing, because this is really good. You should check out some of my stuff. I think you would like it.
