I refuse to use

Society's definition of pretty because

All it does is tell us that we're not pretty enough

From when we could understand

Pretty was skinny and tall

Tall and small

We were trained to call that pretty

But beauty is in the eye of the beholder

But society has makes us colder

They don't have a right to tell us who we are

They can't tell us we can't be a star

In truth everyone was beautiful

Since a baby they were pure

Untouched by society

We knew that it was quality not quantity

They tried to take our individuality

But we were attacked and transformed

Formed and shamed

Now when we change

We close our eyes

Because we don't want to see ourself

We risk our health

All for a lie

It caused our hearts to cry

Cry out for the girl we used to be

For the times where you can be you

And I can be me

That sweet innocence we knew as children

We wish for the way it was back then

We were innocent not arrogant

We loved who we were

Nothing was lacking

But when we grew

So did the laughing and attacking

So we sit here crying

Feeling like crap

When it was society lying

And saying all that

That you can't be pretty

If you don't look like a Barbie

So we are forced to play a game

With rules they set

All for fame

But they won't let

Let you be you

Or let me be me

My friend is one of the most beautiful girls that I've met and she doesn't see it because others who don't want to take the time to get to know her and make her feel like bad for how she looks.

everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise. the worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt. [sylvia plath]
