Starry Sky City

Lights of a distant city don't fathom me
I see the lights but they don't see me
Streetlights bounce off the pavement
So back to the moon they are sent

Your breath is music in my ear
And any other song isn't real
You're the closest thing to faith I have
Yeah, I know I've been bad

Im gonna die tonight
Underneath these starry skies
I'm gonna leave tonight
And you won't be at my side
All that pain is long gone
And all I feel is streets at my feet
I'm gonna die tonight
Underneath these starry skies

You promised me you would never go
But my words aren't fast and I'm walking slow
This world is going faster than me
Cities move but I'm still asleep

I'm gonna die tonight
Underneath these starry skies
I'm gonna leave tonight
And you won't be at my side
All that pain is long gone
And all I feel is streets at my feet
I'm gonna die tonight
Underneath these starry skies

Maybe this is supposed to be me
Maybe this is the life I lead
Maybe I'm supposed to look at the sky
And see the stars instead of light
This holy perpetual night
Is freezing me up inside
I can't feel what's in me
And for once I feel free

I'm gonna die tonight
Underneath these starry skies
I'm gonna leave tonight
And you won't be at my side
All that pain is long gone
And all I feel is streets at my feet
I'm gonna die tonight
And I think I'll be alright

The author's comments:
I listened to the song "Cold Desert" and it inspired this.

It's about getting over a certain person or situation, whether it be death/loss/etc. It's about getting over it, even though it is hard and painful. You have to let that old you "die" and let go of all the pain that has been caused, which sometimes leaves a rather numb feeling at first but then becomes better. Thios song describes that numb phase between pain and happiness.
