Just a little girl, innocence written on my forehead
You were a monster hidden in the shape of a boy
And all you wanted was to come in for a moment
So I let you in, naivety dripping from my voice

In the dawn of the morning after
I felt my bruises, sobbing for what you had stolen
Hating myself, for the child I was the night before
The girl I might never again know

You’re the reason I can’t love
You’re the reason I don’t trust
You’re the reason I won’t smile nearly as much
You’re the reason I can’t breathe
But you’re the reason that I sing
Because as long as I have words
I’ll be haunting you

Makeup hides the sleepless nights and
Convinces everyone I’m fine
But I can still feel your hand striking my face
The hope you took, hasn’t been replaced

You’re the reason I can’t love
You’re the reason I don’t trust
You’re the reason I won’t smile nearly as much
You’re the reason I can’t breathe
But you’re the reason that I sing
Because as long as I have words
I’ll be haunting you
