Mental Novocain

My reality is muddled
With numbness and delusion
To cast off (not escape) this
Would stop the mental drug I’m abusing
Never mind the addiction to false escape
It’s getting too heavy for joy to be faked

It sets in, the Novocain
So that I can escape the pain
The fear, the dread, the anger
Is dampened, but I’m still bitter
My thoughts turn to the blackness
As all the light fades to darkness

The burden of feeling is now
Pressing harder than before
To give up is no option
But all energy is gone from my core
And the light after the tunnel is fading
Though somehow, some motivation is staying

It sets in, the Novocain
So that I can escape the pain
The fear, the dread, the anger
Is dampened, but I’m still bitter
My thoughts turn to the blackness
As all the light fades to darkness

Since I’m here and alive
There is a point somewhere
Better times will come
So my cross I must bear

It sets in, the Novocain
So that I can escape the pain
The fear, the dread, the anger
Those don’t mean I must be bitter
Soon my thoughts will turn to light
The future that’s near will be bright
