Two Bridges

January 8, 2012
One day whilst I was walking
I came upon a shore
Two bridges stood across it
Both led towards open doors
I just sat down and wondered
“What ever shall I do?”
For one bridge was my old path
And one completely new

Chorus
Which bridge should I walk across
And which bridge should I burn?
I cannot discern the two
I hope that I’ll soon learn
Which bridge I should walk across
And which bridge I should burn
For I cannot discern the two
I hope that I’ll soon learn

I decided to start forwards
But I stopped in my track
The other had possibility
I started to glance back
Which one was the correct route?
Which one would bring sorrow?
I looked both ways in misery
No idea where to go

Chorus

I began to debate myself
To weigh the pros and cons
But I ended up more confused
With what was right or wrong
Perhaps both were the right route
Both would take me the right way
Then should I just go with closed eyes
Hope neither would lead astray?

Chorus

I scrunched my eyes together
And then turned twice around
I started walking forwards
Hoping the road that I walked down
Would lead me to my purpose
Whatever it should be
I hoped that the path I chose
Was the right one for me

Chorus

I felt the wood beneath me
And opened up my eyes
The path that I had taken
Seemed to be a compromise
Between what I thought would happen
And I what I’d dreamed it would be
It wasn’t horrid after all
And with that I sighed, relived

Whatever bridge I walk across
Whichever I do burn
I can make a better place
I can adapt and learn
The hardest parts deciding
The route of which to take
It’s not the twist or turn that’s right
It’s what of it you make

It’s not the twist or turn that’s right
It’s what of it you make
