Forget love-- I\'d rather fall in chocolate!!! - Sandra J. Dykes

I’m sixteen now and I know you don’t always get me.
I know I do things you can’t understand,
I do things you wish I didn’t do
But just remember you do wrong things too.
I know it’s a crazy world and you want to protect me
But all I want is to finally be free.
I need you to finally let go of the leash.
Give me the freedom to make my own choices.
Give me the freedom to make my own mistakes
And comfort me when I do…
That’s what I need from you.

I’m nothing much just a young girl
Trying to find myself in this world.
Trying to see the path ahead of me, but the light is dim.
I’m trying to find my place, but I lost my map along the way.

Forgive me when I say something stupid
Because you know I don’t mean it.
Please don’t yell at me for every little thing.
You need to realize I’m not perfect.
You were my age once, I know, but it seems you’ve forgotten.
Don’t try to turn me into you, let me be me
Even though I don’t know who that is.
I’m over here constantly going from rebel to country,
And back again; trying to figure it out, to get it to work.
I may not get it completely correct every time
But between us I’ll come out alright.

I’m nothing much, just a young girl
Trying to find myself in this world.
Trying to see the path ahead of me but the light is dim.
I’m trying to find my place, but I lost my map along the way.

You may not believe, but I know I’ll find it one day.
