Capture spring in my mouth
The swallow comes inevitable
Strips my tongue and aching teeth,
Gnashing, lashing out for more
Real
I’m real
Watch me reel
Watch me unpeel
Sandpaper heart, scratch and scarf
Ever parched ever parched
Drink up the puddles that pool at your feet
Slurp acid, acrid, beautiful, sweet
Shot in my veins, push this beat
Real
I’m real
Watch me reel
Watch me unpeel
Slapping my wings against this screen
The bright’s imbibed, the light’s inside.
Slam my heart against your breast
My tears, my dear: I do my best.
