Equations of a Broken Heart

One plus one is two. Me plus you. That day you promised me that I would be your girl.
I smiled, thinking I figured out the difficult equation I had been questioning so long.

I remember in Mrs. Mason's geometry class, I was the one who helped you with your calculations.

You were real smartie, making some stupid joke that didn't even make sense(I laughed anyways).

You never forgot a single step to a calculation, or the digits to my phone number.

But then came the summer that turned you stupid,
and when you came back to school, you seemed different.
You forgot about everything.
Especially me.

And now it was me who didn't get it.
You were still smart. Smarter.
I didn't get it.
You didn't sit by me in math class. No, you sat by my Nataly with her apple-green eyes she just couldn't keep off you.

From that moment it clicked. I was no longer the girl of your dreams, no longer one plus one is two.

No longer sweet smile in the hallway,
a secret note in class.

No longer that lovestruck look on your face, putting color to your cheeks.
I was only a love calculation is erased from the chalkboard.
Just an equation with a broken heart, never fully mended.

You may be bright. You may be brilliant at getting all the right answers. All the "right" girls.

But one thing you will never be smart enough to know,
is what you are about to lose...
