[brackets around word]=sung a bit before the singer stops singing the line
(parenthesis around word)=something that happens to the song

I know, it's gone, there's nothing there... [nothing there...]
It's in, the past, (tempo gets faster) gotta move on, can't change the pa-ast.
And yet my mind tells me: what if... (tempo slows for a moment) what if...
He loves me! He's loved me all along!
He's held it back...been shy, been a shy bo-oy.
He'll come ba-ack, (much quieter) and won't leave me alone...
(much louder) Alone...!
(A Capella) No. No there's nothing there. Close that door, walk the other way.

(cool harmonies and contrasting voices for a while)

(voices building up) I try to stay away from my fantasies--
but it's hard when you have a heart to heal!
I wish I could make myself lose my dreams but I

(quiet) He could come back...
(harsh) No! He's already gone.
(quiet) He's hiding his feelings...
(harsher) No! Stop these hopeless dreams!
(quiet) He still loves you...
(two voices together) He could.../He can't!
(two voices together, both harsh) It's possible!/It's impossible!
Believe me... (giving in, sad) [I want to believe you...]
(both, breathless) But my heart is confused!

(overlapping and contrasting voices of different lines of song)
(sad and desperate, A Capella) Don't leave me alone...

It sounds like something off of a  Broadway play.
