I wish I could explain

It was too late
She had already seen
Her hand went to her mouth
She tried not to scream
She started backing up
Fear turning to disgust
She breaks for the door
Cutting her hand on the rust
I reach out to grab her
She rips herself from my grasp
Tears rolling down her face
Whimpering from the rasp
Then she disappears
With out another trace
This time it’s my turn
Hot tears start down my face

It’s time to make the decision
I have to let her go
The mark will always curse me
She will never know
I’ll change her mind about me
She’ll hate me more and more
She’ll be relieved that she did it
That she walked out the door

She’ll call me a monster
I’ll hate her all the way
She’ll never even notice
My sorrow and decay
Everyday I’ll miss her
Long for her and cry
She will never know
How hard it was to say goodbye

Then slowly she’ll forget me
She’ll go on with her life
She’ll find a new prince charming
And she’ll become his bride
If only I could tell her
Explain to her everything
Tell her that I love her
And keep her here with me
But now I’m cursed forever
Destined to be alone
She’ll never know the truth
She will let me go
And I’ll be here
Waiting for her return
Hoping that just maybe
She won’t remember the burn
