There are so many things
I could say that I hate
So many things
Bent out of shape
Too many things
That people dwell upon
Whether its global warming
Foreign policy
Or lovers that went wrong

So I ask myself
Along with you all
Why spend so much time
Discussing the bad
When there are so many things
That are in fact quite rad

One of those nights
When you can actually see the moon
A trip to the beach
Or a dinner in your living room
It is different for everyone
Times that make you smile
But I’m asking you right now
Gather them
Sit down with one another
And stay awhile
And while you’re here
Let me tell you
About a few things
That make me smile too:

I like food
Yeah, I like it a lot
I like running at my own pace
And stopping when I want to stop
I like trips to a drug store
And smelling all the shampoos
I like dreaming of the future
Wondering where I should get a tattoo

I like different kinds of people
who know that they’re weird
I like writing good essays
And marveling at Mr. Montera’s beard
I like laughing so hard
That my stomach hurts
I like listening to music
And waking up first

I like listening to others
That are smarter than I
I like hearing people’s feelings
Especially from those that are shy

I like writing poetry
When I have something to say
I like giving myself a break
At least once a day

I like skipping while holding hands
And making weekend plans
I like looking across an ocean
And really good smelling lotion
I like clothing on sale
When it’s really quite a find
I like knowing how to end poems
But this isn’t one of those times
