Poverty in his hair

“Boy with poverty in his hair,”
I call over, “What you doin’ there?”
His eyes, they wreck sad,
I feel silently bad.
Poor boy, poverty in his hair.

The author's comments:
I feel it most useful to toy with things that are normal playful and turn them into a serious matter. It tends to impact the audience just a little bit harder when associating there laughs with a tragic occurrence. True feelings on the matter can be brought to the surface when controversial subjects are put in the form of a traditionally humorous and joyous venue, such as a Limerick about poverty.
