When I was a kid

I liked frying small bugs

to you, I am ash


The author's comments:

The world is big and most of us are small. We play pretend that we're bigger by picking on things that won't fight back. I think this poem is the turning point for the narrarator as she realizes that she's losing power in a relationship and it's time to fight back.
