The Lotus Flower

Lotus on a pond
Reflection broken by red
Petals plucked away

Nuclear Fallout

Braided hair, blue dress
Angel falling, eyes like glass
Sky of endless snow

Death Count

Newspaper numbers
Bullets, bombs, brutal battles
Wounded warriors

Afterlife

Countless souls scattered
Silent seekers in disguise
Imprisoned by Death

PTSD

Violence, anger
Memories I can’t forget
Still, I stand each day

The author's comments:

I wrote these after learning about the Vietnam War in school.  I was so greatly impacted that I needed a way to express my feelings.  So, I wrote, and wrote.  War is terrible, and I hope this inspires you to rethink what you know about such brutal conflicts.  It's never too late to change.
