Swirling mist of black
Engulfs me in the night of,
Shadows of my past.

The haze of darkness
Isolates me in a maze
Of forgotten dreams.

The author's comments:
These are two poems I wrote in English class some years ago during our Haiku unit. We were told to pick a topic to write about and I chose "darkness." As I continued to write my brain kept coming back to the slight feelings of angst often associated with our main darkness: Night. That is how the topic of nightmares came up. I thought how most of these dreams start with the persons past; their fears often using darkness to take root in their minds and spread.
