Spring nights you’d come through
My window, always open
Curtains seldom drawn
First time you snuck in
I was fearful, then flattered
And so it began
I’d watch for sunset
You’d gently knock, and we would
Sit, counting the stars
You stopped coming by
Paradise turned to nightmares
Days into nights--then
You begged forgiveness
And seemed to ignore my sign
Knocking ardently
You were expectant
But the note had most clearly
Read Forever CLOSED.
