Baby grass so green
Bent under both our backs
We didn’t mind dirt

We were only five
Scanning the fluffy white clouds
We voiced what we saw

All original
Animals, bikes, and people
Took form in the sky

Imagination
Was the fuel for our playtime
We took turns pointing

I spotted a heart
She found two bears in a hug
It was magical

We were so young then
Scared of the dark and loving
Lollipops and smiles

A breeze cooled our skin
Whipping through trees and our clothes
Making cotton waves

Sweet honeysuckle
Filtered its smell through the air
We both tasted one

Our barefoot races
Callused our feet in the summer
And dirtied house floors

Baths cleaned off our filth
And soft sheets soothed our dry skin
As we slept at nine

I wish to go back
To years of ignorance and bliss
When we were happy

This is a collection of haikus about childhood and summer memories. Sometimes I wish I could relive these moments, most of which I can barely remember.
