Ocean. Wild yet calm.
Carries broken dreams away.
Slurred promises too.

Waves. Roll to the shore.
Crashing like a failing heart.
Soapy, salty, slick.

Sand. Painfully soft.
Just like an empty canvas.
Waiting for imprints.

Sky. Endlessly blue.
Sucks us into nothingness.
And spits us back out.

Summer. When we wake.
And hide our dreadful past.
Beneath perfection.

The author's comments:
I had to write this Haiku as a writing exercise for school. It's not my favorite type of poetry (I prefer writing long, meaningful sentences that more often than not, include some kind of political message) and it was hard to restrict my stanzas to five and seven syllables. But I could really use the challenge!
