Immortality is a curse
Though no one alive can tell
And our souls, we must nurse
For in love, they fell

The grass is green on the other side
The grass is green over here
But despite the grass we all have cried
From each eye, a single tear

Immortality is a burden
For one day love is lost
You think they’d receive a guerdon
But it’s only ever a cost

The mortals die, of wound or age
And then, Immortals weep
For how many have they seen, on every page
And how many can they keep

Immortality is forever
And love is lost each day
For forever cannot be severed
So they keep the emotions at bay

The author's comments:

The Schopenhauer quote "To desire immortality is to desire the eternal perpetuation of a great mistake" inspired this writing piece, added to my interest of love stories that always end a tragedy.

This piece portrays the eternal sorrows that an immortal has to face when they fall in love with a mortla, which is almost inevitable.
