The Doll Maker
Once there was
A talented doll maker.
He made lots of dolls
That were for children
Once day he made a doll
Which he kept for himself.
He made it beautiful,
Just like his late wife.
First he made her skin,
White as a shiny pearl.
Her eyes were buttons,
Dark as the midnight sky.
Her hair was yarn,
Red as the midday sun.
Then he gave her a dress,
Light green, her favorite color.
White flats were her shoes
To protect her feet.
And don’t forget the sunhat,
With a black ribbon around the band.
He’d let her watch him
Whenever he worked.
And when he was not working,
She’d sit on his bed.
He was very happy,
Even after death,
And the doll
Remained by his side.
