Yellow
I have synesthesia.
I associate colors with people, numbers, places.
It’s never on purpose. Just a fact of my life.
And it can be absolutely
Lovely.
Especially when I think of you.
Your voice,
deep and cool like the bluest of oceans that lull me into a slumber only a mother could bring to her child.
It is the first rain after a long drought, bringing life back to the cracked and dried land.
What do I see when I think of us together?
I see a burst of yellow.
It is that shade of yellow that when you look at it, it settles well on the eyes.
It is the shade of the sun as it wakes up after a long night's rest.
And with each passing day, when the world becomes more dull, and gray,
yellow is the only color that never fades.

This is the first piece I've submitted to this site. It's very personal to me, as it was written about the person who makes my life burst with color.
