I Was Always Around Until I Wasn't

I was always around until I wasn’t
The day I first met you, I was brought out of the dark.
You were so overjoyed it was as if you could faint.
We were introduced in the middle of a beautiful park.

I was always around until I wasn’t
It was strange those first couple days
All you did was stare at me
And you showed me off to your friends every day

I was always around until I wasn’t
I’ve been doused in sudsy dishwater
Banged against countertops
But my love for you never faltered.

I was always around until I wasn’t.
And then another piece of hardware came along.
Suddenly, I was not the only one.
You put her right above me and you seemed to be beaming even brighter than before.

I was always around until I wasn’t.
Months go by
Months turn into a year
And over that time, we became frequent visitors of the front pocket of your jeans.

I was always around until I wasn’t.
And then, one day after dinner, you ripped us both off of your finger.
You threw us at that vile man
And stormed away, never to be seen again.

I was always around until I wasn’t.
With one quick fling it was over and now I’m reduced to listening to the bell over the pawn shop door ring.
