Ode to Memories
bright eyes under blue skies
my little feet scuttle through the freshly cut grass
having picnics under fuschia trees
while ants pilfer cracker crumbs
tossing pennies into a fountain
wishing for a puppy
peeking through a secret path
through hedges ten times the size of me
sniffing pink peonies
as my mom’s camera shutters
begging not to leave
as my sisters start to sob
but now i’ll put the photos back
into a shoebox in my closet
and wish i could return
not just to the garden
but to my past
