the visit
i dread the doctor’s office
every time i go he asks me
do you have any pain
and i never know how to answer
how do you say
it hurts everywhere
how do you pinpoint it
the trauma you’ve inflicted on me
you bulldozed through my veins
aiming straight for the heart
leaving traces of your existence
in my poisoned blood
so when the doctor asks me
do you have any pain
i don’t know how to respond
because you are in me
i am infected with your presence
marked by your pain
and now
filled by your absence
