Waves
and so the ocean crashed into the shore,
not waving hello,
but goodbye;
slamming into the rock
shattering every delicate piece
leaving behind an empty stone
too harshly abused,
too afraid to be alone
and then receding,
training off with thin tendrils of curling foam,
dripping and leaking away slowly
until there was left only a dry emptiness.
but the rock still yearned for the sea,
and when it came thundering back
only to leave again,
the shore thought
‘the hurt is better than the emptiness’
my darling,
even to be empty
would be nobler than this.
