“Grab your spears and grab your shields!”
the elder warrior said with a smile on his face.
My first lion hunt begins.
I cannot have fear, I must stay strong.
A warrior will return home.

“Slowly now–the lion rests near,”
the elder warrior said in a whisper.
My first lion lies in the grass.
I keep my eyes open.
A warrior will return.

“Spears at the ready, the lion wakes!”
The elder warrior shouted the commanded.
The lion roars in rage.
I hold my spear and shield taut.
A warrior will return.

“Throw your spear, young one!”
The elder warrior ordered.
My first lion charges.
I hold up my shield and throw my spear.
A warrior will return.

“A fine hunt, young warrior!”
The elder warrior exclaimed with a smile.
My first lion fell.
I hold up my shield in victory.
A warrior has come home.
