The light of a lamp post
catches her eye.
She tugs at her mom’s sleeve,
pulling her in the direction of the light.

At bricks and lamp posts,
her eyes widen as she spins,
stealing the sights for her own.

Her heartbeat quickens
and her feet scurry
as she skips down the streets,
past Grandma’s house, Watson’s house, the general store, and

the theater where the old cartoons play.
Her eyes focusing on the candy shop.
Rushing towards it,

with childlike glee,
until a few minutes later,
when her parents said,
“Time to leave.”
