"In the end, we only regret the chances we didn't take."

you took me outside

with sparkles in your eyes

and longing on your lips.

you ran your fingers

through my caramel hair,

the sunshine kissing

our faces,

the clouds embracing

our shadows.

you traced the lines

on my palms,

carving each intricate design,

memorizing each stroke.

you promised that one day

we could always be together;

we wouldn’t have to

sneak into backyards

with the winter wind

slapping our faces.

we wouldn’t have to

keep our love in

sealed glass jars.

we wouldn’t have to

count the seconds

before infinity ended,

and our hearts gave out.

your words were

dipped in dark chocolate,

just like your eyes,

staring into mine

as if the world would crumple

if they didn’t.

you wrapped your

arms around my figure

and i rested my head

on your shoulder,

until we knew

it was time to run.

all the magic

in the air evaporated,

and filled the atmosphere

with a smog of

broken dreams

and chipped memories.

i prayed it wouldn’t

always be like this,

and that someday,

we wouldn’t have to hide

a love that made

the rest of the universe

insignificant.
