Do not become anorexic

When your friends dad tells you
“You look anorexic”
Do not confuse this as something to strive for
Do not confuse this as a challenge
This is merely a joke,
Not a funny joke,
But a joke
Please do not start placing your worth in your body

When people tell you
“You’re so lucky to be so thin and able to eat whatever you want.”
Do not confuse this as a rule
Even people who are not thin can eat,
Do not start caring so much what others think of your body
Do not start body checking

When people tell you
  “You eat like an anorexic”
Do not confuse this as a fact
Do not try to eat less around others to prove that you are skinny
Please have a second piece of pie
You are too young to care so much about your body

When people stop telling you
   “You look anorexic”
It will sound like their silence speaks volumes
Do not try to interpret their silence
Do not feel ashamed at your changing body
You can not look like your young self forever

When your dad makes comments about your increasing body
Tell him to shut up
Do not listen to your father
There will be times to listen to your father
But this is not one of them
Do not start believing you are disgusting
Do not start trying to alter your body

When your father tells you
  “You look so good.”
After you lose weight from feeling too sick to eat after getting a concussion.
Do not take this as diet advice
Do not believe fasting is a healthy way to lose weight
Tell him to shut up
Do not listen to your father
There will be times to listen to your father
But this is not one of them.

When people congratulate you on
getting thin
Do not think this is the only thing you’re good at
Do not keep trying to get thinner
Do not place your worth in the bathroom scale

When your friends tell you
“Please eat more, you barely eat”
Do not take this as a challenge to eat less
Do not get angry at your friends
Do not yell at them for commenting about your eating habits
Please listen to them

When your friends gawk at how big your school uniform is on you
Do not take this an achievement
Do not keep trying to make them even looser
Do not take pride in your falling-off skirt and baggy shirt

When your friend hugs you and then remarks that
     You are so frail
Do not confuse this as a compliment
Do not confuse this as encouragement to keep going
Do not skip dinner

When your doctor tells you to eat three meals a day
Do not confuse that as one meal
Do not resist the help
Do not refuse to eat

When your father begs you to eat dinner
Do not fight back
This is the time to listen to your father
Do not refuse

It is time you learned that your body is not the enemy
Socities obsession with thin
Does not need to be your obsession too

I am so sorry that people have been using your body as a conversation topic for as long as you can remember
But please know,
Being thin is not all you’re good at

There are much more interesting things about you
That are not your body

Please do not be afraid to nourish your body
Please do not try to become something you are not meant to be

So, when people tell you
  “You look anorexic”
Please
Do not become anorexic.
