A Drunk Driver's Pet
She put on her shoes and I whine
She plans to go out tonight
Something feels wrong, so I block the door.
She pushes me away,
"Not now, I'm late"
She scratches my head and leaves.
I wait by the door.
Minutes. Hours. Days.
Her mom shows up,
Shes crying.
Chaos.
My human went to a party,
She never made it home,
Something about a crash.
People show up.
Some of my friends come with their humans.
My humans mom drives me somwhere.
The pound.
I'm put in a cage, cold and alone.
In the cage with me is another,
His human was killed like mine.
We curl up together.
All of this because our owners never came home.

I was sitting at home reading a news article about another drunk driver being killed and looked at my dog, wondering what would happen if I was killed by a drunk driver. What would he think? What would he feel?
