First Heartbreak
Ink blot tears stain my white blouse.
Mascara drips, eyeliner smudges.
The heat of embarrassment sears my cheeks,
interrupted only by the cool trail of tears.
A friend wipes away the black river beneath my eyes,
she says “it will all be okay...” I don't know if I believe her.
A shudder runs through my body,
caused by this life-shattering catastrophe:
first heartbreak.
A bitter end to all first loves.
