reality MAG
reality.
r-e-a-l-i-t-y.
reality is such a weird word
that rolls off the tongue
like a tidal wave of
word vomit.
you chew
and swallow
hopes and fantasies and dreams
that taste
so beautiful
so perfect
as if
it’s too good
to be
true..
because
its not.
because it tastes
so bitter
when it comes
back up
and the burn
in your throat
let's you know
that it won’t
ever happen
and it’s not real.
you got
your head
up high in
pure white
cumulonimbus clouds
and vibrant
sunsets with hues
of reds, yellows, oranges
and just
when it seems
that all
is peace
on earth
lightning strikes
similar to
your life
flashing before
your eyes
and thunder
roars
like a
lion
chasing its
next victim
and the sky
opens up
in an uproar
of thunderstorm
in raindrops
as heavy as
a bowling ball
hits the ground
and echoes
through valleys
and then
you snap
back
to
reality.
but i’ve
always been
a dreamer.
and if you think
that i’m going
to let a
so called,
‘reality check’
rain on
my parade?
that’s where
you’re wrong
very wrong,
my friend
so say what
you want
about my
dreams and ambitions
and how they
may not be
‘ideal’
because when
my hard head
sets my mind
to something,
you bet
that
i will succeed.
so whaddup,
‘reality’
how you like me now?

I wrote this poem for an English class assignment. It is about how I have big goals in life and I won't let where I come from stopping me from succeeding. I hope people will take from this poem to chase your dreams even when voices are shouting at you that they can't come true. Dream big, kiddo.
