We were the girls pushed to the sidelines.
Written as a footnote
In someone else's story.
Never the heroine,
Always the sidekick.
When you are treated
As an afterthought
For so long
You begin to wonder
If there is a single place
You belong.
When you never see yourself
In the pages of their stories
You begin to question
If you will ever get
A happy ending.
We were the girls who endured.
You think you can erase us
From your history.
But we were here.
We are your
past present and future.
We will rewrite your stories.
We will create our own stories.
We will do whatever it takes
To be seen,
To be heard.
Because our stories
Deserve to be told.
