The Rose
I walked through a garden
Stopping breifly here and there
To smell the flowers
I was on my way out
When from the corner of my eye
I noticed a quite peculiar flower
It was a rose
Yet it was unlike any rose id ever seen
It's petals were a dark blue at it's center
And faded as they neared the edge
I slid the bloom between two fingers
The petals were lustrous
And seemed quite delicate
As though they would fall off
In even the gentlest breeze
It's fragrance was irresistible
And when I smelt it
It warmed my heart
And made me feel as if all my burdens
Had been lifted
But sadness soon found its place
Once again
For I could not experience this beauty forever
It could only last
For just a fleeting moment
So I sat in the garden
Admiring it's beauty
Until dark descended
And it's petals closed
When morning came
And it's petals opened once more
I was gone
A deep ache rang in my chest
For I was never to return
Never to be graced by such beauty
For the rest of my life
